Career
Åkerman made her acting debut on the Canadian science fiction series Earth: Final Conflict in 1997, having a cameo appearance as a robot. The following year, she made appearances on the Canada-based series Doc and Twice in a Lifetime. In 2001, she moved to Los Angeles, California with a friend from York University. Åkerman was broke at one point; she had to sleep at a friend's couch and returned the favour by cleaning the house. She also worked as a waitress. In May 2011, it was confirmed that she had joined the cast of Rock of Ages as the journalist Constance Stack. The film, and the other projects The Giant Mechanical Man and The Numbers Station, are set to be released in 2012.
